BC Offensive Line Preview

The major reason for the BC offense struggling the last 2 seasons has not been the play of the quarterbacks.  Rather it has been the play of the offensive line.  Addazio made his mark in college football by being an offensive line coach.  In his first 2 years at BC, the offensive line was one of the best in the country.  In 2013, they lead Andre Williams to rush for over 2,000 yards and into Heisman contention.  In 2014, starting 5 graduate seniors, they helped BC rush for almost 500 yards against a USC squad that had a top 10 pick on the defensive line.  However, the last 2 seasons they fell off the charts.  In both 2013, and 2014 BC was not lighting it up throwing the football.  However, they were able to use the ground game to gain big chunks of yards.  That disappeared in 2015, and only marginally improved in 2016.  If the offensive line doesn’t greatly improve, the offensive will struggle again.

Projected Starters:

RT: Chris Lindstrom, JR, 6-4 310

RG: John Phillips, SO 6-6, 310

C: Jon Baker, SR, 6-3, 300

LG: Aaron Montiero, JR, 6-7, 315

LT: Marcell Lazard, GS, 6-6, 310

Others to Watch: Sam Schmal, SR, 6-7 310, Elijah Johnson, SO 6-5 300

Overall: BC’s offensive line should be improved this season. All five projected starters have started games in the past, and both guys on the bench have start under their belt as well.  Marcell Lazard comes in as a graduate transfer out of West Virginia, where he started 6 games last season.  His addition helps to add even more depth to this unit. With this depth and experience, there is no excuse for the line not to be better.  Last season the line looked good against inferior opponents, and able to push their defensive lines around.  However, against better competition struggled with both pass blocking and run blocking.  This needs to change in order for BC to be successful.  I believe it will, and it will be the biggest reason the offense will be greatly improved.
