Boston College beat Buffalo on Saturday, picking up a 35-3
victory in the rain. The Eagles
never trailed, and Buffalo barely threatened on offense. BC improved to 3-2, the first time they
have been over .500 this year, as they face the best team on the schedule this
week in #3 Clemson.
When BC had the Ball: The Eagles picked up 400 yards of
offense and had 35 points.
However, BC did not look great early, as BC didn’t score until the end
of the first quarter, and were only up by 11 until the last minute of the
second. The Eagles struggled to
move the ball on the ground, averaging only 2.5 yards per carry. Hilliman and Davon Jones both carried
the load for the Eagles, getting 19 and 14 yards respectfully. BC struggled to
break off big runs, as the long gain by a running back was 11 yards. The Eagles were, however, able to move
the ball throw the air. Patrick
Towles had his best game as an Eagle, throwing for 235 yards and 2 TDs. He spread his passes around and hit 8
different receivers. The WRs did a
great job gaining yards after the catch, but had a few drops early in the
game. While the offensive line
struggled on the ground, they only allowed 1 sack, and no QB hurries.
When Buffalo had the
Ball: The BC defense
completely dominated this game.
They held Buffalo to just 3 points and only 5 first downs. Buffalo had just 67 yards of total
offense. They struggled both
through the air and on the ground.
The Eagles defensive line clogged down the running game, and Harold
Landry had a sack early in the game.
The secondary played well also, as they had 5 pass deflections and
limited the Bulls to 10 of 23 passing.
A major improvement this week was the lack of defensive breakdowns. Both touchdowns to UMASS and Wagner
were due to missed assignments.
The defense needs to play like this again on Saturday for the Eagles to
have any chance against Clemson.
Overall: Boston College won another game against
an easy opponent. Once again, the
offense struggled early and on the ground but it did not matter. The defense looked great once
again. BC comes back against
Clemson on Friday night, and need to put together their best effort of the
season to gain a victory.
