Week 7 Winners and Losers

Winners:

Syracuse

Syracuse had a rough first half of the season, as they were 2-4 and unlikely to make a bowl game.  This all changed Saturday, with a 31-17 win over #17 Virginia Tech.  Syracuse controlled the game and ran 100 plays on offense.  Syracuse now has a chance to make a bowl game, and the game shows hope for Syracuse in Dino Babers first season.

West Virginia

West Virginia’s defense put on a show this weekend by limiting Texas Tech to just 14 points.  Tech had been scored over 50 in 9 straight home games.  With their win against BYU looking better, West Virginia may emerge as a playoff threat out of the Big 12.

Losers:

ACC Coastal

Miami and Virginia Tech were both upset, knocking each out of the poll.  Every coastal team now has two losses, and North Carolina is the only ranked team at #22.  It could be likely that a 3 loss team wins the Coastal.

Mississippi State

Mississippi State lost to BYU in overtime on Saturday dropping its record to 2-4.  The Bulldogs still have to play 4 ranked teams, and could reasonably end up 2-6 in the SEC.  They are on pace to finish under .500 for the first time since 2009.
